VanDeventer Opens with 67 for Men’s Golf in Hawaii

Cardinals post first-round score of 287 (+3) as a team
LAHAINA, Hawaii -- Michael VanDeventer fired a 4-under-par round of 67 Friday as the Ball State men's golf team opened the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic.
VanDeventer ended the day tied for 12th place in a field of 115 players. He was bogey-free all day with two birdies and an eagle at Royal Ka'anapali.
Ball State posted a score of 287 (+3) as a team, also counting a 71 from Johnny Watts, a 74 from Jack Cunningham and a 75 from Timothy Wiseman. The Cardinals are tied for 16th of 21 teams with two rounds to play.
The tournament features 10 teams ranked in the top 100 of the Golfstat rankings. No. 15 California played its way to the top of the first-round leaderboard with a score of 266 (-18), two shots better than LSU and South Carolina.
Wyoming's Drew McCullough carded the lowest round of the day with a 63 to grab the individual lead.
The tournament continues Saturday and concludes Sunday. The action begins both days with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. HT (2:30 p.m. ET).
