Pair of BSU midfielders honored with postseason league awards
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Two Ball State midfielders were honored by the Mid-American Conference, with Julia Elvbo earning All-MAC First Team honors and Nicky Potts being named to the MAC All-Freshman Team.
The awards were voted on by the league's 12 women's soccer head coaches and announced Thursday.
Elvbo, a sophomore from Lit, Sweden, owns four goals and an assist this season, all of which came during conference play. All four of her goals were game-winners, tying for the most of and player in the MAC.
Elvbo has started 18 of the Cardinals' 20 games. She was named HERO Sports HERO of the Week and MAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring three goals in a weekend to help Ball State defeat Kent State and Ohio.
Potts started seven conference games and made an immediate impact for the Cardinals. She was a key factor in Ball State winning the MAC West Division and earning the No. 2 seed in this week's conference tournament.
A product of Nuneaton, England, Potts brings strong technical ability to Ball State's roster. Her English National Team experience is also an asset.
Ball State continues MAC Tournament play Friday in the semifinals with a 4 p.m. contest against Toledo at Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio. A win would advance the Cardinals to play in the championship game Sunday against either Kent State or Bowling Green.
