Senior earns recognition for third straight year
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Heintschel of the Ball State soccer team was named to the Academic All-District Team for the third consecutive year by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Â
Heintschel was a first-team selection for the second year in a row, once again placing her on the ballot for Academic All-America voting. The Oregon, Ohio, product was a third-team Academic All-American as a junior.
Â
Heintschel maintains a 4.0 GPA as a chemistry, pre-med major and is one of 10 national finalists for the Senior CLASS Award for women's soccer. Fan voting for the award is open through Nov. 20, and fans can vote once per day. The fan vote counts for one-third of the selection process.
Â
A two-time All-MAC choice, Heintschel broke the Ball State program records for career goalkeeper wins (35) and goals against average (0.77). She managed 22 solo shutouts in her career and played a role in a school-record 27 of them.
Â
Heintschel's 0.70 GAA this year led all MAC keepers, as she teamed with Tristin Stuteville to form the top goalkeeping duo in the league. Her 0.77 career GAA ranks third in league history.
Â
Heintschel was a three-year captain who helped Ball State win three MAC West Division championships and two overall league regular season titles.
Â
She is the first player in program history to earn Academic All-District honors three times in a career. Academic All-America selections will be announced later this month.
