Senior goalkeeper broke school wins record last week
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State soccer player Alyssa Heintschel was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week.
Â
A finalist for this year's Senior CLASS Award for women's soccer, Heintschel maintains a 4.0 GPA as a chemistry, pre-med major. She was a 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team selection and has now been named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week three times in her career.
Â
The Oregon, Ohio, native broke the Ball State record for goalkeeper wins with the 35th of her career last Thursday at Miami. She made three saves and organized a defensive effort that shut out the RedHawks.
Â
It was the 22nd solo shutout of Heintschel's career, moving her within two of the Ball State record. She has played a role in 27 total shutouts for her career, more than any player in school history. She has teamed with fellow senior Tristin Stuteville to form the top goalkeeping duo in MAC play this season.
Â
Heintschel improved her career record to 35-11-7 and lowered her career goals against average to 0.75, the third-best in MAC history. Her career-best 0.59 goals against average this season ranks first in the league.
Â
Ball State is the No. 2 seed in this week's MAC Tournament and will play in the semifinals Friday at 4 p.m. against Toledo in Kent, Ohio. The championship game will be played Sunday in Kent.
