October 06, 2017 | Women's Golf
Tournament will conclude Saturday with 36 holes at University Club of Kentucky
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Ball State sophomore Manon Tounalom fired a 1-under-par round of 71 for the Ball State women's golf team Friday to open Kentucky's Bettie Lou Evans Invitational.
The Cardinals finished the opening day tied for 11th place in a strong 16-team field that includes 11 squads ranked among the top 115 in the Golfweek national rankings.
Ball State fired an first-round 308 (+20) on the Big Blue Course at the University Club of Kentucky. The team also counted a 78 from Sydney Anderson, a 79 from Liz Kim and an 80 from Morgan Nadaline.
No. 27 Notre Dame (-4) leads the way through one round, followed by Kentucky (E) and Penn State (+2).
Grace Rose and Ale Walker of Kentucky are tied atop the individual leaderboard with Toledo's Pimchanok Kawil at 3 under par.
Tounalom is just two shots off the pace in a tie for seventh place. She birdied four holes on the day, including two of her final three to finish in red figures.
This weekend's schedule has been altered because of the threat for inclement weather Sunday. Instead of 18 holes the next two days, the tournament will now conclude with 36 holes Saturday. The action begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
