Sophomore midfielder scored three goals last weekend for first-place Cardinals
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State's Julia Elvbo was chosen as the HERO of the Week for Division I women's soccer, as selected by a nationwide fan vote.
Â
The award, presented by HERO Sports, recognizes the best individual performances of the week for NCAA sports. Elvbo received more than 45 percent of the total vote to beat out the other nine candidates from around the country.
Â
Elvbo tallied three goals last weekend as the Cardinals moved into first place in the Mid-American Conference standings with wins over Ohio and Kent State. She scored the first two goals in a 3-1 victory over the Bobcats and registered the only goal in a 1-0 win over Kent State.
Â
The sophomore midfielder from Sweden was also named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week. She entered this week's games as the MAC's leader with nine total points in conference play (four goals and one assist).
Â
Elvbo helped Ball State to another win Thursday night at Western Michigan as the Cardinals remained unbeaten in MAC play at 4-0-1.
Â
The team will play at home Sunday with a 2 p.m. kickoff against Northern Illinois. Admission is free. It will be Indy Eleven Day at the Briner Sports Complex, and hot dogs and Pepsi products will be $1 at the concession stand.
