Fatal Crash Took Life Of Former Women's Tennis Player Bethany Moore
October 05, 2017 | Women's Tennis
MUNCIE, Ind. - Former Ball State women's tennis player Bethany Moore was killed Wednesday morning in a car accident in Hamilton County.
"Bethany was loyal, honest, funny, supportive, and competitive," Ball State women's tennis coach Max Norris said. "Bethany was also an ultimate team player. The only thing that mattered to her was her team's success and their camaraderie. Bethany's parents were also classy and supportive throughout her career. This program would not be where it is without Bethany and everything she gave us."
Moore, who earned four letters for the Cardinals from 2012-16, ended her career with an overall singles record of 58-39 and a 56-39 doubles mark. As a junior, Moore was named to the All-Mid-American Conference Tournament team.
Moore helped the Ball State women's tennis team make history her senior campaign, as the Cardinals claimed both the MAC regular season title and the MAC Tournament championship for the first time in program history. The Cardinals, who also finished the 2015-16 season with a program-best 22-4 record, earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships where they ended their season at 10th-ranked Michigan.
In 2015, Moore helped guide Ball State to a 17-6 overall record, with the 17 wins being the most in program history at the time. She also helped the team reach the championship match of the MAC Tournament for the first time in program history.
Moore also excelled academically, as she earned Academic All-MAC honors in 2014 and was named to an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American. She was also a member of four ITA All-America Team awards.
"Bethany made so many bonds with all athletes here and was supportive of other Ball State teams, " Norris said. "She was a Ball State Cardinal through and through. I am truly saddened by Bethany's passing. We will miss seeing her and she will always be in our hearts. We also would like to express our condolences to her family."
Prior to Ball State, Moore attended Lebanon High School where she earned four letters in tennis. During her senior season she held the No. 1 ranking in central Indiana girls 18 singles and doubles while finishing her career with a 103-6 overall mark. Moore ended her high school career ranked 162 in the nation on tennisrecruiting.net, 19th in the great lakes section and fourth in the state of Indiana. She received First Team All-State, All-District and All-Conference honors all four years.
