Elvbo Named MAC Offensive Player of the Week
October 03, 2017 | Soccer
Sophomore midfielder scored three combined goals in wins over Ohio, Kent State
MUNCIE, Ind. -- On the heels of a three-goal weekend, Ball State's Julia Elvbo was named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for women's soccer.
Â
The sophomore midfielder from Sweden registered the game-winners against Ohio and Kent State, as the Cardinals handed both teams their only conference loss so far. Her performance helped Ball State move into first place in the MAC standings.
Â
Elvbo wasted no time in either half Friday against Ohio, finding the net three minutes into the first and one minute into the second for the Cardinals' first two goals. She scored both in the air after crosses from teammates Lauren Roll and Nicky Potts, as BSU went on to claim a 3-1 victory.
Â
Elvbo then tallied the only goal Sunday against Kent State in a battle for first place. Her rebound goal in the 35th minute was all the Cardinals needed to snap the Golden Flashes' seven-game unbeaten streak and extend their own such streak to five games.
Â
Elvbo has now scored four goals through four league contests and leads the MAC during conference play with nine total points (four goals, one assist).
Â
Ball State, which owns a record of 3-0-1 in league play, returns to action Thursday with a trip to Western Michigan for a 4 p.m. kickoff. The Cardinals will host Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Briner Sports Complex.
