Men’s Golf Moves to Second in North Carolina

All five BSU golfers are among the top 30 through two rounds
POWELL'S POINT, N.C. -- The Ball State men's golf team counted four scores of even-par or better Monday to move into second place at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
The Cardinals fired a team score of 279, one better than the opening round, led by a 3-under 68 from Johnny Watts. Jack Cunningham turned in a second straight round in the 60's with a 69 to move into the top 5.
Michael Makris and Timothy Wiseman carded 71's, while Michael VanDeventer was solid with a second straight 72.
All five members of the Ball State lineup are among the top 30 in a field of 93 players through two rounds at Kilmaric Golf Club.
First-round leader and defending champion Campbell extended its advantage and will take a 19-shot lead into the final round with a 36-hole total of 540 (-28). Among the 18 teams competing, only Ball State (-9) and tournament host Old Dominion (-6) are also under par.
Campbell's Ray Kraivixien (-9) holds the individual lead entering the final round.
Cunningham (-5), a freshman who has put together his best 36 holes of the season, is four shots off the pace. Makris (-1) and Wiseman (-1) are tied for 14th. Watts (+1) is 23rd, and VanDeventer (+2) is 28th.
Ball State continues to lead the field with 44 birdies as a team through two rounds, led by Cunningham and Makris with 10 each.
The third and final round of the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate is slated for Tuesday. Ball State will play in the final groups off the first tee starting at 9:30 a.m.
