Baseball Spends Part of Fall Break Team Building with Navy SEALs
October 13, 2017 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Most Ball State students spent their Fall Break enjoying a relaxing few days away from campus, but the Ball State baseball team had other plans. Head coach Rich Maloney had the team go through a day of team building exercises with a pair of former Navy SEALs, one of whom was also a former Division I baseball player.
The players spent Tuesday morning listening to a presentation from the Navy SEALs on the fundamentals of a winning program. In the afternoon, the team went through several Navy SEAL themed application drills that focused on communication, confidence, mental toughness, teamwork, leadership, high-pressure performance and failure analysis.
"It was awesome to have two Navy SEALs here to work with our team," Maloney said. "They did a phenomenal job of teaching leadership and team building. Our guys really thrived in that atmosphere. They were pushed, challenged, encouraged, affirmed and really the thought process was teaching them how to be selfless. I think our guys got it. They had a great experience. We're thankful that one of our alums was kind enough to donate back to the program to allow the players to experience this."
The Cardinals wrap up their fall practice schedule with a scrimmage on Sunday, Oct. 22 at noon.
Ball State concluded the 2017 spring season with a 30-28 overall record and 14-10 mark in the MAC. That was the fifth straight year the Cardinals reached the 30-win plateau.
