Cardinal Notes:
• Ball State remains at home in Mid-American Conference action, taking on Western Michigan on Jan. 7 in Muncie, Ind., at 3:30 p.m. The Cardinals have opened league action with a 2-0 record after posting wins over Toledo (51-45) and Kent State (71-47). The 2-0 mark is the best start since the 2014-15 season when Ball State opened conference play with wins over Bowling Green and Miami. Today's game will be streamed live on ESPN3. The Cardinals are currently 9-5 overall and 2-0 in MAC action.
• Western Michigan comes to Worthen Arena with an 11-2 overall record and a 2-0 conference ledger. The Broncos have won 10-straight with recents MAC wins over Akron (73-60) and Miami (85-60). Western Michigan has not lost since Nov. 21, when it suffered a 66-40 setback at Big Ten foe Michigan.
• Today's game marks the first of three doubleheaders that the Ball State men's and women's teams will host this MAC season. The men will play prior to each of the women's basketball games which will begin at 1 p.m. The Ball State men's basketball team hosts Bowling Green today in Worthen Arena.
• Saturday's game against Western Michigan will mark the 77th time in program history the two schools have met with Ball State leading the series record, 39-35. In 2015-16, the Cardinals swept the Broncos winning 77-53 (Jan. 23) in Kalamazoo and then 60-54 (Feb. 20) in Worthen Arena. Ball State owns a 20-6 ledger over Western Michigan dating back to the 2004-05 season. Brady Sallee owns a 7-1 career record against the Broncos.
• Fifth year head coach Brady Sallee has guided the Cardinals to a 23-10 (.687) Mid-American Conference mark in the month of January over the course of his last four years; 2012-13 (6-1), 2013-14 (4-4), 2014-15 (6-3), 2015-16 (6-2) and 2016-17 (1-0).
