Gymnastics Travels to Missouri for Season Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. - - After impressing the celebrity judges at the annual Red & White Meet in mid-December, the Ball State gymnastics team officially opens the 2017 season Friday, when it travels to Columbia, Mo., to battle the Missouri Tigers and Illinois at 8 p.m. EST.  in the Hearnes Center.

Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Joanna Saleem, the Cardinals return 13 letter winners from last season's squad including four 2016 NCAA Regional Qualifiers.
"I am looking forward to this competition season," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "We have a strong team of student-athletes who are looking to have another record breaking season."
Six members of the 2016 Ball State gymnastics team traveled to Iowa City, Iowa for the NCAA regional competition. Four of the six athletes return for another year of competition. Sarah Ebeyer (Sr.) competed on vault and floor. Jordyn Penny (Jr.) competed on bars and beam. Kayla Beckler (Sr.) performed on bars and Baylee Bell (Jr.) competed on beam.
On vault Sarah Ebeyer scored a 9.650 tying for twenty-seventh. Jordyn Penny scored a 9.525 placing thirty-fifth.
On bars Penny scored a 9.825 placing seventeenth. Kayla Beckler stood thirty-first with a score of 9.725.
Baylee Bell placed ninth with a score of 9.850 on beam after sticking her dismount. Penny followed with a 9.800 in seventeenth.
Ebeyer closed the floor competition in twenty-seventh with a 9.700.
In addition to the 13Â returning letter winners, the Ball State squad welcomes five newcomers to the roster.
Join the Ball State gymnastics team Sunday, Jan. 15 in Worthen Arena for its home opener against Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. EST.
