
Cardinals Finish Third in Season's First Tri-meet

"It was exciting to start off our season competing against teams ranked in the top 25 in the coaches pre-season poll," head coach Joanna Saleem said. "Being able to finish strong after a challenging start shows that these ladies are fighters and will stay focused until the last routine."
The Cardinals started the competition on beam where the team managed a collective score of 48.150. Senior, Kayla Beckler took seventh place with a 9.825.
On floor sophomore, Kaitlyn Menzione stood seventh with a score of 9.775.
On vault freshman, Bri Slonim and senior, Sarah Ebeyer tied for second place with scores of 9.775. Jordyn Penny claimed sixth with 9.750.
The Cardinals concluded the competition on bars where Penny took second place scoring a 9.875, while Beckler stood fifth with a 9.825.
"For the first meet of the season it was good to see what this team could do," Saleem stated." "We are starting off much stronger than last year and now we know what we need to work on this week to prepare for our first MAC competition."
The Cardinals return to action Sunday, January 15, when it opens up the Mid-American Conference with Northern Illinois in Worthen Arena at 1 p.m. Admission to the meet is free.
