
Women's Tennis Victorious Over UNCG, 6-1

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina - The Ball State women's tennis team closed its three-match road trip in North Carolina Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 win over the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-1 overall while the Spartans fall to 0-1.
Ball State only dropped one game between its two doubles matches that earned the Cardinals their first point. Carmen Blanco alongside Toni Ormond swept their opponents Blaine Boaz and Masey DeMoss by a score of 6-0 on court two. On the top court, Audrey Berger and Julia Sbircea defeated Alice Taylor and Yasmin Franco, 6-1 for the doubles point. Peyton Gollhofer and Rosalinda Calderon were up 5-3 in their No. 3 doubles match before the point had been decided.
In single aciton, the Cardinals won matches on courts two, three, four, five and six. Gollhofer, Ormond, Isabelle Dohanics and Rebecca Herrington all won in straight sets on their respective courts. Dohanics clinched the match for Ball State for the fourth point after beating DeMoss 6-3 in the first set then took the second set, 6-0. Berger was the final match off the court today. She defeated Corinne Blythe in a three set thriller, 6-7 (1), 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).
The Ball State women's tennis team continues spring action when it hosts Dayton in its home opener Sunday, Jan. 29 at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center. First serve is at 2 p.m.
