Women's Tennis Wins Home Opener Against Dayton, 6-1

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's tennis team continues to be successful during spring play earning yet another win today against Dayton. The Cardinals now 3-1 with their only loss coming against No. 2 North Carolina, defeated the Flyers Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-1 in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
Dayton fell behind early by dropping the doubles point to Ball State. The Cardinals team of Peyton Gollhofer and Audrey Berger downed Marlys Bridgham and Jade Kawamoto 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. Toni Ormond and Carmen Blanco clinched the point for Ball State with a 6-1 win over Mandy Marchant and Jade Kawamoto at the No. 1 position.
The Cardinals continued to dominate the match during singles play taking five of the six points from Dayton. Herrington came off the court first with her straight set victory over Allen on court five. Dayton then earned their first point at the No. 3 position after Jade Kawamoto took down Toni Ormond in three sets. But that didn't faze Ball State, Berger and Isabelle Dohanics both took down their respective opponents in straight sets for the third and fourth points for the Cardinals. Dohanics match clinched the win for Ball State.
Gollhofer and Rosalinda Calderon were also victorious for Ball State today. Gollhofer won her match 6-2, 7-5 on the top court despite being down in the second set 4-5 she came back to win the next two games for the win. Calderon was the final match off the court after her three set thriller at the No. 6 spot.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues spring action Saturday when it hosts Illinois State at 4:30 p.m. and then Wright State on Sunday beginning a 1 p.m.
