2011 grad recognized with award from Indiana Section PGA
Former Ball State women's golfer Brittany Kelly has been named the Indiana Section PGA Assistant Golf Professional of the Year.
Kelly, who starred for the Cardinals from 2007-11, is the assistant pro at The Hawthorns Golf & Country Club in her hometown of Fishers. She is the first woman ever to win the award.
She will be honored in front of her peers at the Indiana Section PGA Annual Meeting in February at the Horizon Convention Center in Muncie.
Established in 2001, the award is designed to recognize an individual assistant golf professional for his or her dedication to the game and commitment to the profession. Criteria that are considered are: commitment to customer service, leadership ability and PGA academic history.
Kelly was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection at Ball State, including a first-team choice in her junior and senior years. She became the first Ball State women's golfer to compete in an NCAA Regional when she earned an at-large bid in 2011. She continues to hold the program record for career scoring average at 76.43.
Kelly made the cut last October at the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, where she was one of three women competing.
