Swimming and Diving Sweeps MAC Awards

MUNCIE, Ind. – Members of both the men's and women's swimming teams were named this week's Mid-American Conference Swimmers of the Week, announced Thursday.
Junior Andrea Richter was named the MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week for her performance in a dual meet with IUPUI and Xavier. Richter placed first in the 100 butterfly with a season best time of 57.57. She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay with a split time of 25.29. Richter's split time in the 400 freestyle relay of 53.95 was a lifetime best. The relay placed third overall, but placed second to Xavier and second to IUPUI in the dual meet with a time of 3:37.03.
Senior Tanner Barton was named the MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week also for his times in the dual meet with IUPUI and Xavier. In the meet, Barton's time in the 200 freestyle (1:46.23) placed him sixth overall, but third against Xavier. His time in the 100 butterfly of 52.26 placed him second overall, but first against Xavier. Barton, one of Ball State's team captains, was one of the top finishers on the day for the Cardinals.
The Ball State women's swimming and diving team will be in action again on Friday, Jan. 20 when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to take on Indiana State and Eastern Illinois. Meet is set to begin at 7 p.m.
The Ball State men's swimming and diving team will be in action again Saturday, Jan. 14 as they travel to Eastern Michigan.
