Field Hockey Falls in First Game of MAC Action

KENT, Ohio– The Ball State field hockey team lost to Kent State 3-1 in the first matchup in Mid-American Conference action Friday afternoon.
The Cardinals (4-5) were the first to strike when senior midfielder Mikayla Mooney, this season's leading scorer, scored her fourth goal of the season connecting with the back of the cage in the 12th minute of the game. Mooney's goal was straight off of a penalty corner assisted by senior Bryce Barnes and Abbey Main.
Kent State (5-4) scored once before half with a rebound shot from Silvia Figa Malgosa in the 17th minute. The Golden Flashes were the first to tally a goal in the second half with a shot from the top left of the circle from Alison Harmatz. Kent State's Shannon Talbot also scored in the second half with a goal from the right side in the 50th minute.
Ball State heads to Athens, Ohio to take on the Ohio Bobcats Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. in non-conference action.
