MUNCIE, Ind. – After two tough losses in Iowa last weekend, the Ball State field hockey team is hoping to get back in the win column as they travel to Kent State Friday to begin conference action.
Last year, the Cardinals fell to Kent State 6-1 in their last game of the season. The Cards took four shots on goal, only connecting with the back of the cage once. Goalkeeper Jordan Dues had 10 saves in 52 minutes of action.
Senior forward Lexi Kavanaugh is confident this year's matchup between the Cardinals and the Golden Flashes will be a much better outcome.
“Going into MAC play, you can tell the atmosphere is different,” Kavanaugh said. “We are ready to go out there and show the MAC what we are made of. We have worked hard for this moment and will not back down. The seniors especially are ready to prove that we are no longer weak. We want to bring Ball State field hockey back to the level Karen Fitzpatrick built it. With Christy [Longacre], Kelsey [Smither] and Kate [McBeath] coaching us, I think we can and will get there.”
The Cardinals will also take on the Ohio Bobcats Sunday, Sept. 25 in non-conference action. The Cards fell to the Bobcats twice last year, once at home and once in Athens. The first matchup was a 2-4 loss at Briner Sports Complex in non-conference action. The second meet-up between the two teams was a 4-1 loss by the Cardinals in MAC action.
Already doubling the win total from a year ago, Ball State is confident and ready to take on MAC contenders.
