Soccer Welcomes Marshall for Sunday Exhibition

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team will see its first game action of the 2016 season Sunday with a 2 p.m. exhibition against Marshall at the Briner Sports Complex.
It is the beginning of a heavy home schedule for the Cardinals, who will also play their first four regular season games and 11 total in Muncie this season.
Ball State is the reigning Mid-American Conference regular season champion after going 14-3-3 (10-1 MAC) last fall. Under the direction of seventh-year head coach Craig Roberts, the Cardinals return 14 letterwinners from that squad. Among them are All-MAC First Team selections Lorina White, Leah Mattingly and Alyssa Heintschel.
Marshall will provide a stern test in the exhibition. The Thundering Herd finished last season 15-4-3 (6-2-2 C-USA) and reached the championship game of the Conference USA Tournament. Sydney Arnold returns as the team's leading scorer after registering nine goals last season. Marshall will play an exhibition game Friday against Dayton before traveling to Muncie.
Sunday's game marks Ball State's only exhibition contest. The Cardinals will open the regular season Friday, Aug. 19 at 5 p.m. against Eastern Kentucky.
