FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Sydney Anderson, set to enter her sophomore season on the Ball State women's golf team, finished runner-up this week at the Indiana Women's Open.
Anderson closed with the low round of the tournament, a 5-under par 68, Thursday at Brookwood Golf Club. She finished the 36 holes of regulation tied atop the leaderboard at 5 under with Julia Potter and 2011 Ball State graduate Brittany Kelly.
The trio went to a playoff, where Kelly bowed out with a bogey on the first hole and Potter edged Anderson by one shot on the second to win. Potter was a three-time All-Big 12 performer at Missouri and the 2013 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur champion, while Kelly was a three-time All-MAC player for the Cardinals.
Another Ball State player, rising senior Kelsey Sear, was in action this week at the Canadian Women's Amateur. Sear opened with a 1-under par round of 69 and went on to tie for 44th in the 72-hole event at Ken-Wo Country Club in Nova Scotia.
Ball State will begin its fall schedule Sept. 4 with Illinois State's Redbird Invitational at Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Illinois.
