Men's Golf Places Five in Top 12 at State Am

ELKHART, Ind. -- Five Ball State men's golfers placed among the top 12 this week at the Indiana Amateur Championship at Elcona Country Club.
Rising junior Johnny Watts tied for sixth place at 8 over par after closing with a 70 in Thursday's final round. Classmate Michael VanDeventer did him one better on the last day, matching the low round of the tournament with a 69 to move into eighth place at 9 over par.
Rising sophomore Tyler Pearson (+10) tied for ninth, while rising juniors Michael Makris (+11) and Keegan McKinney (+11) tied for 12th. McKinney fired a 69 in the opening round of the event and held the lead after both of the first two days.
Rising sophomores Timothy Wiseman and Colin Proctor, along with 2016 graduate (and soon-to-be graduate assistant coach) Tyler Ostrom, also made the cut this week. A total of 59 golfers among the field of 156 made the cut.
Elcona member Matt Christensen, a former Fresno State golfer, won the tournament. He finished at 2 over par, four strokes clear of the field.
Next year's Indiana Amateur Championship will be held at The Hawthorns in Fishers.
