
Field Hockey Announces 2016 Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State field hockey team finalized its 2016 schedule, which includes an 11-game road stretch to start the year. The Cardinals' home opener under first-year head coach Christy Longacre is slated for Oct. 3 against Ohio State.
Ball State will also welcome Mid-American Conference opponents Longwood (Oct. 9), Ohio (Oct. 13) and Miami (Oct. 23) to the Briner Sports Complex. The only other home date is a non-conference contest against La Salle on Oct. 16.
The Cardinals play host to Indiana in a scrimmage on Aug. 20 before hitting the road for 11 straight games. The season opener is scheduled for Aug. 26 at Appalachian State.
Five Big Ten opponents are on the schedule highlighted by the home game versus Ohio State on Oct. 3. The other four Big Ten contests are on the road – Northwestern (Sept. 9), Penn State (Sept. 17), Iowa (Sept. 18) and Michigan State (Oct. 2).
Ball State's conference schedule starts on Sept. 23 at defending MAC champion Kent State. The regular season concludes with a trip to Central Michigan on Oct. 28. The MAC Tournament will be held at Kent, Ohio on Nov. 4-5.
The Cardinals return six starters in 2016, including 2015 All-MAC second team honoree Lexi Kavanaugh. The forward posted a team-high seven goals last fall and has 20 career goals to her name.
