ROUND 1 RESULTS
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Ball State men's golfer James Blackwell opened with a 74 (+2) Friday to share the first-round lead in the men's individual invitational portion of the 30th PGA Minority Collegiate Championship.
Teammate and fellow senior Albert Jennings is ninth after an 81 (+9). The event is being held on the Wanamaker Course at PGA Golf Club.
Blackwell was even for his round until a pair of bogeys in the middle of his second nine. But he played steady the rest of the way. He ended the day tied with Norman Blanco of Maryland Eastern Shore and James Lee of Rice atop the leaderboard.
This week's event features more than 160 men and women from nearly 40 schools in both team and individual divisions. The second round will be played Saturday and the final round Sunday.
The PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship was first contested in 1987. PGA Golf Club has hosted the event since 1998, and the PGA of America was granted complete ownership and management of the tournament by the National Minority College Golf Scholarship Fund in 2006.
An hour-long highlight show featuring action from the championship will air June 29 (8 p.m.) on Golf Channel and will re-air July 5 (2 p.m.) and Aug. 23 (2 p.m.).
