Caleb Stayton's Grand Slam Highlights 7-4 Win at Butler
May 18, 2016 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Caleb Stayton hit his second grand slam of the year to propel the Ball State baseball team to a 7-4 win at Butler Tuesday afternoon.
Stayton, a junior from Goshen, Indiana, took a 1-1 pitch in the second inning and delivered it over the right-center fence to clear the bases and give Ball State (31-22) a 6-0 lead. With those four RBIs, Stayton joined UNC Wilmington's Nick Feight (79) as the second player in the nation to reach 70 RBIs. Stayton needs six more RBIs to equal Ball State's single-season mark of 76 set by Brad Miller in 2006.
Redshirt freshman Griffin Hulecki also homered for the Cardinals, notching his third home run of the season and the second in the last four games.
Senior pitcher Matt Haro (6-2) bounced back from a tough outing at Toledo on Saturday to earn his team-leading sixth win. The left went 6.0 innings and allowed three runs.
For Butler (14-37), Tyler Houston went 4-for-5 with a run scored and RBI while Michael Diviesti was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
The Cardinals wrap up the regular season with a non-conference series at Northern Illinois on May 19-20.
