Track & Field Turns in 10 Career Bests Marks in Pair of Saturday Meets
May 01, 2016 | Track & Field
ATHENS, Ga. / OXFORD, Ohio - - In another day spent battling less than ideal weather conditions, the Ball State outdoor track & field team recorded 10 career-best performances in split squad action at the Georgia Invitational and RedHawk Invitational Saturday.
Of the 10 personal-bests, none were bigger than the 400m hurdles times of junior Kassidy Swenson and senior Becca Kropf at the Georgia Invitational. Both turned in Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championship automatic qualifying times in the event, with Swenson placing third at 1:01.05 and Kropf taking fourth in 1:01.11.
In addition to the two MAC auto qualifiers, junior Olivia Ashba logged a personal-best in the event with her fifth-place effort of 1:01.98 which was just slower than the league championship standard of 1:01.89.
Behind the efforts of the above trio in the 400m hurdles, the Cardinals turned in six career-best performances and seven top five finishes at the meet in Athens, Ga.
Ball State's best finish came in the 4x100m relay, when Anna-Kay West, Peyton Stewart, Amber McGee and Jazmin Smith won the event with a season-best combined time of 46.71.
Stewart would also place fourth in the 100m dash (11.98) and eighth in the 200m dash (25.31) at the meet. Also earning fourth-place individual finishes for Ball State were freshman Regan Lewis in the high jump (1.65m / 5'-5”) and senior Michaela Hull in the javelin (37.21m / 122'-1”). Hull also placed sixth in the discus with a career-best toss of 45.05m / 147'-10”.
At the RedHawk Invitational in Oxford, Ohio, the Cardinals were paced by a second-place finish by junior Ariel Hune who finished the 200m dash with a season-best effort of 59.94.
The Cardinals received a pair of career-best efforts in the 5000m run, with sophomores Jessica Bryzek and Kitty Taylor placing 14th (18:22.54) and 16th (18:25.48), respectively. Junior Emma Manchess rounded out Ball State's top performers in the meet with a career-best time of 12:07.57 in the 3000m steeplechase to place seventh overall.
The Ball State outdoor track & field team closes the 2016 regular season next Friday, when it travels to Bloomington for the Billy Hayes Invitational. From there, the Cardinals will head to Toledo, Ohio, for the 2016 MAC Outdoor Championships held May 12-14.
