Track & Field Turns in Strong Effort at Billy Hayes Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - - The Ball State outdoor track & field team closed the 2016 regular season with four personal records and six top five finishes at Friday's Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex.
Next up for the Cardinals will be the 2016 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Toledo at the UT Outdoor Track & Field Facility.
Leading the way for Ball State at Friday's meet was freshman sprinter Peyton Stewart who placed second in the 100m dash with a finals time of 11.83.
One race earlier, freshman Jazmin Smith shaved .02 second off her personal best time in the 100m hurdles, placing third in the finals with a time of 14.10.
The Cardinals also received a pair of career-best performances in the 400m dash, as sophomore Gabby Sims placed fourth (57.32) and freshman Amber McGee took fifth (57.59).
In Ball State's final race of the day, junior Ericka Rinehart placed seventh in the 3000m steeplechase with a career-best finish of 11:34.47.
In the field events, senior Michaela Hull was Ball State's top performer, taking fourth overall in the discus with a distance of 43.61m.
