UPDATE: Because of forecasted cold temperatures, the event has been shortened to 36 holes. The first round will begin Saturday with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. The final round will be played Sunday with tee times starting at 9 a.m.
Coming off its best round of the year, the Ball State men's golf team returns to action this weekend with the Hoosier Collegiate at Otter Creek.
The Cardinals are part of a 14-team field in Indiana's tournament at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Indiana. The event is scheduled to include 18 holes Saturday with an 11 a.m. shotgun start and 18 holes Sunday with tee times starting at 9 a.m.
The tournament is a homecoming for Ball State sophomore Michael VanDeventer, a four-time all-state selection and 2014 state champion at Columbus North High School.
VanDeventer is coming off his best collegiate round, a 2-under par 69, on the final day of Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Championship last week. The Cardinals' 284 as a team, their best round of the year by five strokes, vaulted them up to seventh place in a loaded field.
VanDeventer will again be joined in the lineup by Johnny Watts, James Blackwell, Keegan McKinney and Timothy Wiseman. Those five players all finished within five strokes of each other at the Mason Rudolph. Michael Makris will compete as an individual.
The field this weekend includes Indiana, Cincinnati, IUPUI, Loyola (Maryland), Marquette, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Purdue, Santa Clara, Toledo, Valparaiso, Wisconsin and Xavier.
