RICHMOND, Ky. -- The Ball State women's golf team finished second at Eastern Kentucky's Colonel Classic and placed five golfers among the top 20 individually.
The Cardinals closed the 11-team tournament Saturday with a round of 305 to post a 54-hole total of 922 (+58) and emerge from a group of three teams tied for second entering the day.
Ball State finished 10 shots back of tournament champion Eastern Kentucky (912) and 11 shots ahead of third-place Tennessee Tech (933). The Cardinals also defeated fellow Mid-American Conference schools Ohio and Bowling Green.
“At the beginning of the day, there was not much separating second place and sixth,” Ball State coach Katherine Mowat said. “As the day went on, we isolated ourselves in second and for a while looked like we were pushing first.”
Allison Lindley, who was named to the all-tournament team, led Ball State with a final-round 73 on her way to a fourth-place finish at 224 (+8). It was her fourth top-10 performance of the season.
The Cardinals also counted a 75 from Morgan Nadaline, a 78 from Kelsey Sear and a 79 from Sydney Anderson in the final round at the University Club at Arlington.
“Allison's 73 was a very solid round,” Mowat said. “The conditions today were the hardest of the tournament. It was windier and colder. The last stretch today was especially challenging. But we put together out best team round of the tournament and showed some good depth for sure.”
Sear tied for eighth place at 232 (+16) for her third consecutive top-10 result. She won the Bulldog Florida Invitational and finished third at the MSU Citrus Challenge.
Nadaline and Anderson tied for 19th at 237 (+21). Meghan McDougall, competing this week as an individual, gave the Cardinals a fifth golfer in the top 20. She tied for 17th with a score of 236 (+20).
IUPUI's Aneta Abrahamova entered the day with a seven-shot lead in the race for individual medalist and held on to win by two over Tennessee Tech's Allyson Dunn with a score of 218 (+2).
The Colonel Classic was the last full-field event for Ball State before the MAC Championships, which will be played April 22-24 at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville.
The Cardinals will host a tri-meet April 10 against IPFW and the University of Indianapolis at Anderson Country Club.
