Soccer Plays Indiana State to 1-1 Draw
April 02, 2016 | Soccer
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Ball State soccer team played Indiana State to a 1-1 draw Saturday at Carroll Stadium in the third game of its spring schedule.
Abbie Boswell, the reigning Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year, scored Ball State's goal as the team remained unbeaten (2-0-1) this spring.
“We are looking for development and progression in our style of play with some newcomers and younger players, and we were delighted with our progress today,” Ball State coach Craig Roberts said. “We possessed very well, and the girls connected a lot better and implemented a lot of things we have been working on.”
Ball State has dealt with some injuries this spring, forcing some of its roster to play different positions than usual. And though he was disappointed to allow a goal, Roberts was pleased with the way his team responded to the challenge.
“Lauren Lerew stepped into center back and did a good job, and Lucy Walton played left defense and did very well,” Roberts said. “Tristin (Stuteville) and Alyssa (Heintschel) did a good job at goalkeeper.
“We dominated possession, and we had attacks hit the post and cross bar. We would like to finish a little better, but we executed very well for the most part.”
The Cardinals will continue their spring schedule Saturday, April 9 with games against Grace College and Southern Indiana. The action begins at 2 p.m. at the Briner Sports Complex.
