Ohio Wins Extra-Inning Affair Over Ball State, 12-6

MUNCIE, Ind. – Visiting Ohio capitalized on an errant throw in the top of the 10th inning to score six runs en route to a 12-6 win over the Ball State baseball team Friday afternoon. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Ball State.
The Cardinals (15-12, 2-2 MAC) trailed Ohio (11-14, 2-2) heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, 6-3, but managed to score two runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth to even the score.
Junior Alex Maloney ripped a two-run double off the left field wall to bring Ball State to within one run, 6-5. In the eighth, junior Alex Call came through with a two-out bloop single to center field to plate fellow junior Sean Kennedy.
Ball State had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the ninth inning as junior Jarett Rindfleisch led off the frame with an infield single. Maloney pushed him over to second base with a sacrifice bunt. Unfortunately, the next two batters struck out to strand Rindfleisch.
Ty Black and John Adryan then started the top of the 10th inning with back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second base. Cody Gaertner tried to move the runners over with a sacrifice bunt, however pitcher Colin Brockhouse threw the ball into left field while trying to get the force out at third base. Black scored on the play to put the Bobcats back on top, 7-6. Later in the inning, Longo and De Jesus notched two-run hits to break open the game.
Jake Roehn (2-2) put the Cardinals down in order in the bottom of the 10th inning to earn the win.
Call and Maloney each finished 3-for-4 at the plate for Ball State. Maloney doubled twice and knocked in three runs.
De Jesus and Longo combined for seven RBIs for the Bobcats.
These two teams met in last year's MAC Tournament championship game.
The three-game series continues tomorrow, April 2 with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
