COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Behind a pair of 1-under par 71's from James Blackwell and Johnny Watts on Saturday, the Ball State men's golf team opened with the second-best score of the day at the Hoosier Collegiate at Otter Creek.
The Cardinals posted a team score of 293 (+5) to sit in a tie for second place with Marquette, just two shots behind Purdue (293) for the top spot at Otter Creek Golf Club. Tournament host Indiana (295) is fourth, followed by Loyola (Md.) (296) in fifth.
The tournament, which was shortened to 36 holes because of cold temperatures, will conclude with the final round Sunday. The action begins with tee times at 9 a.m. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
Blackwell and Watts are tied for third on the individual leaderboard, just one stroke off the lead shared by Valparaiso's Peter Webb and IUPUI's Rylan Porter.
