No. 18 Coastal Carolina Pulls Away From Ball State, 12-5

CONWAY, S.C. – Host Coastal Carolina scored three runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eighth to pull away from Ball State in the finale of the 2016 Chanticleer Classic Sunday afternoon, 12-5. Ball State (5-7) went 2-2 in four games at the Chanticleer Classic.
The Cardinals were productive offensively early in the game, scoring a run in each of the first four innings to take a 4-3 lead.
Connor Owens came through for Coastal Carolina (6-5) with a two-run double in the fifth inning to put the nationally ranked Chanticleers on top for good, 6-4. Owens and Zach Remillard each finished with three RBIs for Coastal Carolina.
Coastal Carolina's bullpen was strong in six innings of work, allowing just one run on four hits.
Junior Sean Kennedy led Ball State at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Over the weekend, both Kennedy (.438) and fellow junior Jarett Rindfleisch (.429) hit better than .400. Kennedy recorded a team-best four RBIs at the Chanticleer Classic.
Ball State continues its Spring Break trip to Savannah State to play a single game on Tuesday and Wednesday.
