Baseball: History Unwrapped (Episode 1)
March 31, 2016 | Baseball
Remember the joy of being a little kid ripping open a pack of baseball cards? Who's gonna be inside? Will there be rookie cards? Autographed cards? Jersey cards? Might there be gum?
Ball State All-Access recaptures that youthful excitement introducing a new series to BallStateSports.com titled 'History Unwrapped.' Periodically throughout the season various Ball State baseball players will open up packs of old baseball cards, flipping through to see which names they recognize and why some cards might be more interesting/memorable than others.
In the first edition, junior third baseman Sean Kennedy opens up a pack of 2003 South Atlantic League cards. The South Atlantic, or Sally, League is a full-season class A minor league across the east coast. Many times it's a college player's first or second stop in the pros.
Digging through the Sally League cards, Kennedy comes across some pretty familiar names. He finds some big time Major Leaguers, some Hall-of-Famers and even a Ball State connection. Check out the video to see his reactions.
Ball State baseball is next in action this weekend, hosting a three-game series against 2015 MAC Tournament champion Ohio. Friday's first pitch is set for 3pm with 1pm starts on Saturday and Sunday.
