Women?s Golf Second behind Opening 70 from Sear

SORRENTO, Fla. -- The Ball State women's golf team opened with its best round of the season Sunday to find itself in a tie for second place at Morehead State's Citrus Challenge.
Led by Kelsey Sear's career-best 70 (-2), the Cardinals posted a team score of 294 (+6). They are part of a four-way tie for second with Western Kentucky, Elon and Florida Gulf Coast. Jacksonville State (+4) will take a two-shot lead into Monday's second round at Red Tail Golf Club.
Jacksonville State's Valentina Giraldo carded the lowest round of the day by five strokes and tops the individual leaderboard after a 65 (-7). Sear is tied with Western Kentucky's Emily Alexander and Elon's Heather Munro for second.
Ball State was balanced throughout its lineup with a 74 (+2) from Allison Lindley and 75's (+3) from Kayla Adamson, Morgan Nadaline and Sydney Anderson. That trio is tied for 28th place out of 118 golfers, while Lindley is tied for 20th.
The 20-team field for this week's tournament includes Ball State, Morehead State, Murray State, Akron, Florida Gulf Coast, North Florida, Elon, Cincinnati, Western Kentucky, Nebraska Omaha, Jacksonville State, Central Michigan, McNeese State, Northern Kentucky, James Madison, Marshall, Stetson, Georgia State, Ohio and Daytona State.
The second round will be played Monday with the final round set for Tuesday.
