Women's Tennis Sweeps MAC Weekly Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Ball State women's tennis team swept this week's Mid-American Conference Weekly honors. Peyton Gollhofer earned singles tennis player of the week and the Cardinals twosome of Bethany Moore and Carmen Blanco earned doubles team of the week.
Gollhofer, a true freshman for Ball State, went 3-0 last week at the No. 1 singles position. She took down all of her opponents in straight sets. Gollhofer began the week with a 6-3, 6-4 win, over South Dakota's Ellie Burns. She then took down Norfolk State's Dajana Cvjetkovic , 6-3, 6-1 last Thursday before ending the week with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over James Madison's Timea Guibe. With the wins, Gollhofer improved to 9-2 in dual action and 17-4 overall. She helped Ball State extend their win streak to nine and improve its overall record to 12-2 on the season.
Moore the lone senior on the team alongside teammate sophomore Carmen Blanco, went 3-0 in doubles action last week. The twosome helped the Cardinals take the doubles point from each of their opponents on their spring break trip in Orlando, Fla. Against South Dakota, Moore and Blanco defeated Elise Van Zijst and Milica Pavlovic by a score of 7-5 on court two. The pair then earned victories over Norfolk State (6-2) and James Madison (7-6, 7-4) at the No. 3 doubles position.
The Ball State women's tennis team continues non-conference action at Wright State Friday at 7 p.m. After that, the Cardinals will open Mid-American Conference play at home March 18 against Western Michigan at 12 p.m.
