Roberts Aids Haiti's Historic CONCACAF Run
March 15, 2016 | Soccer
Ball State soccer coach Craig Roberts helped Haiti make history for the country last week, winning Group AÂ at the CONCACAF Under-17 Women's Championship in Grenada.
"It was a tremendous experience," said Roberts, who serves as an assistant coach with the Haiti national program. "Coaching at that level gives you additional experiences and a different level of play with some of the best players in the world."
The Haiti team, which had not won a game in six previous appearances at the tournament, went 3-0-0 in the opening stage to win its group. Included in that record was a win over third-ranked Canada. Haiti also tied the tournament record for goals in a game in a 13-0 win over Grenada.
The tournament included teams from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Guetemala and Grenada.
Roberts, who led Ball State to the Mid-American Conference regular season championship last fall, has served on the Haiti coaching staff since 2014.
