NOTRE DAME, Ind. - - Facing some of the toughest competition in the region, freshman Regan Lewis (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) placed eighth in the high jump to lead the Ball State indoor track & field team on the first day of competition at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame at the Loftus Sports Center.
Lewis was one of only 14 competitors to clear the bar at an opening height of 1.67m (5'-5.75"), accomplishing the feat on her second jump which earned her eighth place among the field of 31 jumpers. The effort was just shy of her career-best mark of 1.68m (5'-6") set back in December.
Overall, Ball State student-athletes competed in five events on the opening day of the meet, with school record holder Marie Lumpkin (Losantville, Ind./Union) also throwing in a strong finish in the weight throw, placing 15th overall with a toss of 17.47m (57'-3.75").
Rounding out the Cardinals' top performers was freshman Amber McGee (Fort Wayne, Ind./Northrop) who turned in a career-best time of 25.37 in the 200m dash.
Ball State closes action in the two-day Meyo Invitational tomorrow, with participants in the 800m run, 4x400m relay and shot put. Action on the second day is slated to start at 9:45 a.m.
