
Men's Tennis Loses 5-2 On The Road Against Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Ball State men's tennis team fell 5-2 at Big East foe Xavier Saturday night at the Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club.
With the loss, Ball State drops to 2-4 on the season while Xavier improves to 4-1 in spring action. Four of the Cardinals last five matches have been from the Big East and the Big Ten. Ball State recently competed against back-to-back ranked opponents, at Indiana and Notre Dame last week.
On the top court, Lucas Andersen and Andrew Stutz continued their winning ways and defeated Xavier's twosome of Jeremy Schneider and Jack Dykema by a score of 6-1. The Cardinals No. 1 duo recently earned Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the week for their victory over Indiana. Andersen and Stutz have improved to 16-6 overall and 4-2 in dual action. The Cardinals then suffered 6-4 losses to the Musketeers on courts two and three, giving Xavier the early 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
Xavier took four of the six singles matches from Ball State. Conner Andersen earned a game for the Cardinals after posting a 6-2, 6-4 win over Dykema on court five. Jan Jirus was also a winner after taking down the Musketeers Trent Smith 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Lucas Andersen put up a strong fight on the top court after winning the first set 6-2 over Schneider. Schneider then rallied back with a 6-4 win in the second set to even the score 1-1 before the third set. Andersen came close but lost 7-6 (3).
The Ball State men's tennis team returns home for the first time in five matches when it hosts IU Southeast and Taylor in a double header Friday, Feb. 26 beginning at 2 p.m. in the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
