Soccer Places Three on All-Region Teams Lorina White, Leah Mattingly, Alyssa Heintschel earn recognition
All-Great Lakes Region Teams
MUNCIE, Ind. -- For the second year in a row, the Ball State soccer team placed three played on the All-Great Lakes Region teams, as selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Senior defender Lorina White was named to the All-Region First Team for the second year in a row, while senior defender Leah Mattingly and junior goalkeeper Alyssa Heintschel were both second-team selections.
All three were integral parts of a Ball State defensive unit that ranked in the top 25 nationally for goals against average in each of the past two seasons. The Cardinals won their second consecutive Mid-American Conference regular season championship this year.
White becomes the first player in program history to earn first-team all-region honors twice in a career. The Poughkeepsie, New York, product and former junior college national player of the year was named the MAC's top defensive player in both of her seasons with the Cardinals. She is the first player in league history to earn defensive player-of-the-year honors in back-to-back seasons. White also scored seven goals in her Ball State career, including three this season.
Mattingly is one of only three players in program history to earn All-MAC honors three times in her career. She was a first-team all-league selection as both a junior and senior. The Floyds Knobs, Indiana, product was a two-year team captain. Mattingly is the school record holder with 82 games played, 82 games started and 7,678 minutes played in her career. She also ranks among the top 10 in program history with 11 goals, 10 assists and 32 total points, including three goals and two assists this season.
Heintschel was named the All-MAC First Team goalkeeper in each of the past two seasons. The Academic All-American from Oregon, Ohio, owns the best career goals against average in school history (0.79). Still with one year to play, Heintschel ranks second in Ball State annals with 18 solo shutouts and fourth with 29 career wins. She went 10-2-3 this season, including a 9-1-1 mark with six shutouts during the Cardinals' run to the MAC regular season title.
Ball State's three all-region selections tied the most in program history. The Cardinals also had three players earn the honor in 2006 and 2015.
