Call Ranked White Sox No. 9 Prospect

2016 MAC Player-of-the-Year Thriving in Pros
Muncie, Ind. - The reigning Mid-American Conference Player-of-the-Year and a 2016 First Team All-American for Ball State, Alex Call has been named by Baseball America as the Chicago White Sox' No. 9 overall prospect heading into the 2017 season.
A native of River Falls, WI, Call batted a career-best .358/.443/.667 with 13 home runs and 67 runs scored for the Cardinals this spring before being drafted in the third round (86th overall) by the White Sox in June.  He was opened his pro career assigned to rookie-level Great Falls, lasting only 27 games before a promotion to Low-A Kannapolis in the South Atlantic League.  For the minor league season Call hit .308/.394/.445 with six home runs and 35 knocked in.
Baseball America, the sport's leading publication, ranks the top 30 prospects in each Major League team's farm system every season. Â Those rankings are then released in the magazine's annual Prospect Handbook, but the first ten of those 30 names are released ahead of time. Â Call is the second outfielder on the list (behind fourth round selection Jameson Fisher) and one of seven collegiate products. Â Miami, FL catcher Zack Collins is listed at No. 1 and followed by five pitchers.
Recent Baseball America picks among the White Sox top-10 that have already made it to the Major Leagues include 2014 No. 1 Jose Abreu, 2014 No. 5 Marcus Semien and 2014 No. 8 Trayce Thompson.  Call is likely to begin the 2017 season, his first full professional one, with Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem in the Carolina League.
