Pitching Coach Chris Fetter Takes Position with Los Angeles Dodgers
November 28, 2016 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State baseball's pitching coach, Chris Fetter, is returning to the professional ranks as the minor league pitching coordinator for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Fetter worked with the Cardinals for the 2016 season after spending two years as a Major League Baseball scout for the Los Angeles Angels. While on the Ball State coaching staff, Fetter helped the Cardinals rank second in the Mid-American Conference in ERA (4.31) last spring. Right-handed pitcher BJ Butler earned first team all-conference accolades under Fetter as Butler ranked third in the league in ERA (1.84) and second in saves (nine).
"Coach Fetter did a fantastic job in the short time he was here," Ball State head coach Rich Maloney said. "When we hired him, we knew at some point this would happen. I always believed he was a rising star in this profession. He will leave a lasting impression on our pitching staff as they have benefitted greatly from being with him. We wish Chris and Jess a tremendous career in Major League Baseball."
Fetter, hailing from nearby Carmel, Indiana, played his collegiate baseball under Maloney at Michigan where he helped the Wolverines win three Big Ten championships and advance to four NCAA regionals. The right-handed pitcher was a 2006 Baseball America Freshman All-American, 2008 All-American, three-time All-Big Ten selection (2006, 2008, 2009) and 2009 team captain.
Fetter graduated from Michigan in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and proceeded to be drafted by the San Diego Padres in the ninth round of the 2009 MLB Draft. After spending four years as a minor league pitcher in the Padres farm system, Fetter turned to the coaching ranks where he served on the 2013 San Antonio Missions (Double-A) staff.
The search for a new pitching coach will begin immediately.
