Cardinals’ 2017 class includes players from Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky
MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State men's golf program inked three high school seniors to national letters of intent during the November signing period.
Ball State coach Mike Fleck signed Jack Cunningham (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln HS), Miles Jena (Middletown, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick HS) and CJ Jones (Frankfort, Ky./Franklin County HS). The trio will join the Cardinals next fall.
"We are excited these three young men have joined the Ball State golf family," Fleck said. "They are excellent character young men and will be committed to the process of being successful on every level. We are happy to welcome CJ, Jack and Miles, along with their families, to ours."
Jack Cunningham has reached the Indiana state finals twice and will play his senior season for Vincennes Lincoln in the spring. He is a three-time all-conference performer, having finished runner-up at the Big Eight Conference championships three times. Cunningham owns five top-10 finishes on the Golfweek Junior Tour, including three top-5 results. He has two runner-up finishes on the Indiana Junior Golf Tour. Cunningham, who owns a 4.0 GPA, earned a spot on the Transamerica Scholastic Junior All-American Honor Roll. He has been admitted to Ball State with the Presidential Award.
"Jack is a talented and athletic student-athlete, and his value system fits in well with ours," Fleck said. "Jack has competed at a high level the last few years, elevating his game to elite status. His desire to be successful will push him to do great things during his time at Ball State."
Miles Jena was a three-time all-state selection and three-year captain at Bishop Fenwick, where he finished his career this fall. He competed in the Ohio state finals three times with three top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place result as a freshman. The two-time Greater Catholic League Player of the Year earned multiple all-section and all-district honors. On the junior golf circuit, Jena held the day-one lead at the Bubba Conlee National Junior Golf Tournament and finished ninth at the 2016 North & South Junior Amateur Championship at Pinehurst No. 2. He has been admitted to Ball State with the Beneficence Award.
"Miles is another gifted young man who has emerged on the golf scene the last couple of years with his consistent and successful play," Fleck said. "Miles will push himself and the team to become even better, and he will be a major contributor during his time as a Ball State student-athlete."
CJ Jones qualified for the Kentucky high school state tournament six years and won the individual state championship for Franklin County as a junior in 2015. He was a three-time all-state selection. Jones won the Central Kentucky Bluegrass Conference championship and was the league's player of the year as a senior this fall. He was the 9th Region Player of the Year as a junior and was named to the all-region team as a senior. In junior golf, Jones tied for ninth at the 2016 Bubba Conlee National Junior Golf Tournament. He tied for seventh over the summer in his US Open qualifier.
"CJ is a competitive and charismatic young man who will be an awesome fit in the framework of our program," Fleck said. "CJ has been associated with winning during his high school and junior golf careers and will compete at a high level for us during his time as a Ball State student-athlete."
