Ziswiler Named MAC Defensive Player of the Week

Freshman right back helped Cardinals tie school record with 10 shutouts
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Yela Ziswiler of the Ball State soccer team has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Cardinals secure their second straight MAC regular season championship.
Ziswiler, a freshman defender from Spiez, Switzerland, played a key role for a Ball State back line that limited Miami to one total shot in Thursday's championship-clinching shutout. She also scored her first collegiate goal in the win.
Ball State tied the school record with its 10th shutout in the 2-0 victory. The RedHawks could not register a shot until an 88th-minute free kick that was easily saved. Ziswiler capped the win with a beautiful strike from 30 yards out for the Cardinals' second goal of the day.
Ziswiler has started every game for Ball State this season at the right back position, helping the team lead the league with a 0.71 goals against average.
The Cardinals (14-3-3) finished conference play with a 9-1-1 mark, becoming the second team in MAC history to win back-to-back outright regular season titles.
