MUNCIE, Ind. – After defeating Longwood 2-1 on Sunday, the Ball State field hockey team is looking to pick up two more home wins this week.
On Thursday, Oct. 13, the Cardinals (6-7, 1-1 MAC) will try to move to 2-1 in Mid-American Conference play as they take on a tough Ohio (5-7, 2-0 MAC) team for the second time this season. When these two teams met in September, Ball State fell to Ohio 3-2 in overtime. Senior Lexi Kavanaugh led the team in that contest with two shots on goal and one score. Sophomore Beth Barnes also scored her first goal of the season.
The Cardinals will take on La Salle (5-7) on Sunday, Oct. 16 for their 'Think Pink' game to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The first 200 fans will receive a pink stadium cup. Forward Michelle Shampton was the only Cardinal with a shot on goal in last year's 1-0 loss to La Salle. Goalkeeper Jordan Dues had three saves in last year's contest.
Going into this week's games, senior Mikayla Mooney leads the team in goals with four. Kavanaugh, last year's leading scorer, and sophomore Darbi Gullett both have three goals through 13 games.
Senior goalkeeper Jordan Dues has 75 saves through 13 appearances, with a .701 save percentage.
