AKRON, Ohio – The Ball State women's swimming and diving team fell to top MAC contender Akron Friday night, 208 to 89.
The Cardinals finished second in both the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay. Freshman Anne Vormohr, junior Amanda Kedzierski, junior Andrea Richter and senior Jessica Extine were members of the 200 yard medley relay and had a final time of 1:45.51. Vormohr, Kedzierski and Extine were also part of the second place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay along with freshman Peighton Gilbert.
Freshman Sophia Bader placed second in the 200 yard butterfly with a final time of 2:06.97. Bader also finished third in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 57.77 and third as part of the 400 yard freestyle relay along with Andrea Richter, Cassidy Blackwin and Lauren Elston.
Junior Amanda Kedzierski, along with being part of two relays, placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.43. This time marks Kedzierski's lifetime best and moved her to second on Ball State's all-time Top Ten list. Kedzierski also placed second in the 200 yard breaststroke.
Rachel Smallwood, Taylor Fiew, Courtney McKeen and Rachel Bertram all placed in the top five in the one-meter dive. Bertram, Smallwood and McKeen also placed in the top five in the three-meter dive.
"We lost a tough one today against a well-coached Akron squad," said head coach Kristy Patterson. "I was proud of how our team executed their race plans and competed. It resulted in numerous season bests and even had three lifetime bests. This is a reward for how hard they are training and focusing during workouts. We showed some grit on the boards today, knowing we will only get stronger with each meet. It will be nice to compete at our home pool this weekend and see what we can do there."
The Cardinals will be at home on Friday, Nov. 4 as they take on Bowling Green. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m.
