Goalkeeper helped Cardinals reach first place in MAC standings last week
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State soccer goalkeeper Alyssa Heintschel has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Heintschel owns a 4.0 GPA as a chemistry major. The Oregon, Ohio, product was a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete selection and CoSIDA Academic All-District choice last season.
The 2015 All-MAC First Team goalkeeper posted a 2-0 record over the weekend, allowing just one goal in two games to help the Cardinals take sole possession of first place in the MAC standings.Â
Heintschel notched her fourth consecutive shutout (and sixth in seven starts) in Friday's 2-0 victory over Bowling Green. She came within seven minutes of another one Sunday against Toledo when she made five saves, including four diving or leaping stops, to keep the Rockets off the scoreboard until the 84th minute of Ball State's 2-1 victory.Â
Heintschel lowered her goals against average to 0.69 for the season and helped the Cardinals extend their unbeaten streak to a school-record 10 straight games.
This is the third time in her career Heintschel has been named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week.Â
