
WBB Suffers 73-48 Setback At Ohio Wednesday

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ball State women's basketball team (9-4, 1-1 MAC) suffered a 73-48 loss to Ohio (10-3, 2-0 MAC) Wednesday night in the Convocation Center.
The Cardinals were plagued by turnovers (26) and had one of their worst shooting performances from the field (32.7) including only 20.0 from the 3-point line. Ball State did outrebound the Bobcats (44-to-32) including 31 off of the defensive glass.
For the first time in eight games, senior guard Nathalie Fontaine was held below 20 points after scoring 15 for the contest. Fontaine also pulled down 14 rebounds (12 of them defensive boards) for her 25th career double-double.
After the half, Moriah Monaco opened the third quarter with the Cardinals first 3-point basket of the ball game to bring Ball State within four (32-28) but the Bobcats closed out the quarter with an 11-7 run, giving them a 10-point lead (45-35) to start the fourth quarter.
Ball State came to within seven (45-38) after Jill Morrison knocked down a 3-point basket at the start of the fourth quarter but that was as close as the Cardinals would get the remainder of the contest.
Ohio would lead by as many as 10 in the first half and held a 32-25 advantage at the break. Ball State used a 6-0 run at the start of the second quarter to bring the Cardinals within one (18-17) after baskets from Shelby Merder and Frannie Frazier.
For the first time this season, the Cardinals went cold from the 3-point line in the first half but outrebounded the Bobcats, 24-to-14.
The Ball State women's basketball team continues Mid-American Conference action against the East Division when it hosts the Miami RedHawks Saturday at 2 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
