MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State senior midfielder Madison Oyer has been selected as one of 30 candidates nationwide for the 2015 Senior CLASS Award for women's soccer.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Oyer is one of only six Ball State players ever to be named All-Mid-American Conference twice in a career. She owns nine assists and three goals in a little more than two seasons at Ball State and has helped the Cardinals climb into the upper echelon on the MAC.
The Fort Wayne, Ind., product, who began her collegiate career at Memphis, has a 3.24 GPA with a major in family and consumer sciences. She was an Academic All-MAC selection and a member of the league's Distinguished Scholar Athlete list in 2014.
On the field, she has been a leader among her teammates. Away from it, she has been involved in the Muncie community and in her hometown. Among other activities, she has volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club, a senior health center and an animal shelter.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced in December during the 2015 NCAA Women's College Cup.
The list of 30 award candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select the winner.
Oyer and her teammates are in Baton Rouge, La., this weekend for LSU's Stomp in the Swamp tournament. The Cardinals, 3-1 so far this season, will play Friday night against the host Tigers in their first ever matchup with an SEC opponent.
