Men?s Golf Wraps up Day 1 at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Michael VanDeventer leads the Ball State men's golf team at 3 over par (145) after Monday's opening two rounds at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic.
Ball State sits in 11th place as a team with one round to play at Warren Golf Club. The Cardinals posted a two-round total of 587 (296-291) Monday. VanDeventer shot rounds of 72 and 73, good for a 23rd place tie individually.
James Blackwell (76-72) and Tyler Pearson (74-74) each shot 148 on the opening day to tie for 36th. Johnny Watts at 149 (77-72) and Timothy Wiseman at 151 (74-77) round out the Ball State lineup.
Notre Dame leads its home tournament at 1 over par (569). Saint Mary's (570) and Wofford (571) are right on the heels of the Irish.
The race is tight on the individual side, as well, with 14 players at even par or better. A quartet of players leads the way at 3 under par: Daniel Wetterich of Xavier, Nicholas Ross of Eastern Michigan, Will Stewart of William & Mary, and Ethan Wall of Loyola (Md.).
